PLAN OF EXAMINATION

The competitive examination comprises of three Successive Stages:

1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

2. Main Examination (Subjective)

3. Interview (Verbal)


PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION

The Preliminary Examination Consists of Two Papers

Paper - I :     General Studies                       200 Marks (100 questions) ( compulsory)

Paper - II :    Aptitude test                            200 Marks ( 80 Questions)  ( qualifying)

                         Total                                          200 Marks


Important points about exam:

1. Both the question papers are of multiple choice types.

2. The question papers are set both in Hindi and English. Each paper is of two hours duration. 

3. The examination is meant to serve as a Screening Test only.

4. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not counted for determining the final order of merit.

5 .The numbers of candidates to be admitted to the Mains Examination will be about twelve to thirteen times the approximate total number of vacancies to be filled in the year.

6. There is a negative marking. For every question wrong, 33% Marks are deducted.  


MAINS EXAMINATION

Main Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various services and posts.

Paper-I:   Essay                                                  (250 Marks)

Paper-II: General Studies - I                        (250 Marks)

Paper-III: General Studies - II                     (250 Marks)

Paper-IV: General Studies - III                    (250 Marks)

Paper-V: General Studies - IV                      (250 Marks)

Paper-VI: Opt Subject – Paper 1                 (250 Marks)

Paper-VII: Opt Subject – Paper 2               (250 Marks)

Sub Total (Written test)                               1750 Marks

Important points about exam

1. The question paper is subjective type.

2. Time duration for each paper is three hours.

3. Marks obtained by the candidates for all papers (Paper I-VII) will be counted for merit ranking. However, the Commission will have the discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all papers of the examination


INTERVIEW TEST

1. The number of candidates to be selected for interview will be about two and half times the number of vacancies to be filled.

2. The interview carries 275 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks).

3. Interviews are conducted in UPSC building in Delhi.


Final count

Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination and Interview (1750+275) would determine their final ranking. Candidates will be allotted to the various services keeping in view their ranks in the examination and the preferences expressed by them for the various services and posts in the mains form.
